Marketing Team Cost Calculator

Compare the annual cost of four ways to run marketing: a Teamulate AI marketing department, an agency, fractional help and an in-house team. Teamulate figures come only from its published pricing page. Every other number is yours. The full result is free on this page, with no email and no account.

  • No email required
  • Instant results
  • Worked example included

Get your cost comparison in five simple steps

  1. Step 1

    Choose your currency

Pick CAD or USD. The two sheets are separate and nothing is converted between them.

  2. Step 2

    Pick a Teamulate plan

Choose Core, Growth or Scale. The fees are the ones published on teamulate.ca/pricing/, in CAD, so the Teamulate row appears in the CAD sheet only.

  3. Step 3

    Enter other options

Add an agency retainer and optional setup fee, plus a fractional hourly rate and hours. Leave an option empty to leave it out.

  4. Step 4

    Add in-house costs

Enter roles, annual salaries and your employer load. Client-owned software is a separate monthly amount added to every option unless the agency retainer already includes it.

  5. Step 5

    Compare the totals

Select Compare options to see year 1, ongoing year and monthly totals side by side, with insights derived from your run.

Four options, one CAD sheet

A static example you can check without running the calculator. Select Load worked example above, then Compare options, to see the same result in the tool.

Example inputs, not market rates. Apart from the published Teamulate fees, these numbers are not taken from any source.

In-houseC$90,000C$12,000C$102,000C$102,000C$8,500

Result: Lowest year 1 total among the options you entered: Fractional at C$55,200. Highest: In-house at C$102,000.

  • Teamulate Core plan: Setup C$7,500 once + C$5,000 a month x 12 (published on teamulate.ca/pricing/; fees include human oversight); tools C$1,000 a month x 12 = C$12,000.
  • Agency: Retainer C$6,000 a month x 12; tools C$1,000 a month x 12 = C$12,000.
  • Fractional: C$150 an hour x 24 hours a month = C$3,600 a month x 12; tools C$1,000 a month x 12 = C$12,000.
  • In-house: Salaries C$75,000 x (1 + 20% employer load) = C$90,000 a year; tools C$1,000 a month x 12 = C$12,000.

The lowest cost is not automatically the best choice: in this example the fractional option buys 24 hours a month of one person, while the other options cover different scope. Compare what each option includes.

Methodology

How the calculator works

Method version 1.2.0. Dated 5 October 2026. Published by Teamulate.

The formulas
  1. Teamulate plan: year 1 = setup fee + 12 x monthly fee. Ongoing year = 12 x monthly fee. Published fees include human oversight; client-owned software is separate.
  2. Agency: year 1 = one-time fee + 12 x monthly retainer. Ongoing year = 12 x monthly retainer.
  3. Fractional: monthly cost = hourly rate x hours a month. Year 1 = one-time fee + 12 x monthly cost. Ongoing year = 12 x monthly cost.
  4. In-house: people cost = total annual salaries x (1 + employer load %). Year 1 = people cost + other annual costs + one-time hiring costs. Ongoing year = people cost + other annual costs.
  5. Client-owned software: 12 x the monthly tools amount you enter, added to every option, except the agency when you tick that its retainer includes your tools. Oversight for agency, fractional and in-house is inside the numbers you enter, not a separate line.
  6. Monthly, ongoing = ongoing year total / 12. All amounts are rounded to the nearest whole dollar.
Where the numbers come from

Source: teamulate.ca/pricing/, retrieved 28 September 2026. All prices in CAD. Pricing is monthly, with the setup fee due at the start of onboarding. There is no annual discount at this time.

Agency, fractional and in-house figures are inputs you enter. The calculator has no default salaries, retainers, hourly rates or employer load, because these vary by market, seniority and scope.

What the calculator does not do
  • It compares cost only. It does not compare or establish scope, capacity, expertise, speed, quality or business results, and the four options deliver different amounts and kinds of work.
  • It does not estimate revenue, leads, return on investment or savings.
  • It does not include the time your own team spends managing each option.
  • It has no default salaries, retainers or hourly rates. Rates vary by market, seniority and scope, and we will not invent them.
Assumptions
  • Teamulate fees are the published values on teamulate.ca/pricing/, retrieved 28 September 2026, in CAD. Check that page for current pricing. Those fees include human oversight.
  • Every agency, fractional and in-house figure is an input you enter. The calculator supplies none.
  • CAD and USD are separate sheets. Nothing is converted, and Teamulate appears in the CAD sheet only because its prices are published in CAD.
  • Year 1 includes one-time fees. The ongoing year assumes the same prices, salaries and hours, with no raises, inflation or price changes.
  • Advertising spend is left out of every option. Sales taxes are not included.
  • Employer load is the percentage you enter on top of salaries for costs such as payroll taxes and benefits.
  • The calculator stores nothing and sends nothing. It runs in your browser. The share link embeds your inputs, including role titles and salaries, in the link itself.
  • The worked example uses example inputs, not market rates, and they are not taken from any source.

FAQ

Questions about the calculator

Is the Marketing Team Cost Calculator free?

Yes. The full comparison shows on this page with no email and no account.

Where do the Teamulate numbers come from?

Only from the published Teamulate pricing page, teamulate.ca/pricing/, retrieved 28 September 2026: Core is C$5,000 a month plus C$7,500 setup, Growth is C$7,500 a month plus C$12,500 setup, and Scale is C$12,000 a month plus C$20,000 setup. All prices are in CAD. Fees include human oversight.

Why are there no default salaries, agency retainers or fractional rates?

Because they vary by market, seniority and scope, and we will not invent them. Enter your own quotes, offers or budgets.

Why is there no Teamulate row in the USD sheet?

Teamulate publishes its prices in CAD only. The calculator does not convert currencies, so the Teamulate row appears only in the CAD sheet.

Does the calculator compare what each option delivers?

No. It compares cost only. Scope, capacity and expertise differ between an AI department, an agency, fractional help and an in-house team, so compare what each one includes before you decide.

Does the calculator save my numbers?

No. It runs in your browser and sends nothing. If you use the share link, it embeds your inputs, including role titles and salaries, in the link itself, so share it only with people who should see them.
